About Chris Seale Art

I have been doing artwork professionally from the age of 14 when I set up a booth to do sketches at a local department store. I have had my work exhibited in several shows in Georgia and New York including a one-man show in Rockmart, Ga in 1998. My artwork has also been exhibited in shows at the University of Georgia and the
capitol building in Atlanta Ga. I have worked with just about every type of artwork imaginable from photography to portraits, murals, faux finishing, and children's book illustrating. "Tilly...a Deer's Tale", my first children's book, was released in Sept. 2005.  It is available at most major book stores.   I am currently accepting commissions for portraits or offers for murals, faux finishing, or children's books.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have decided to include some frequently asked questions to assist you toward your decision for custom artwork.

(1)  What does "trompe l'oeil" mean?

Trompe l'oeil is a french term that literally means "fool the eye".  Trompe l'oeil paintings create the illusion that there is something there when there actually isn't.  Common scenes for trompe l'oeil are an open window with a view to a garden, columns, or niches with statues or flower vases.  You will never grow tired of seeing family and friends do a double take as they try to determine if the scene is real or not.

(2) Should I invest in a mural if I might move or renovate in the future?

You don't have to let the prospect of moving or renovating scare you away from commisioning a mural.  Murals can be painted on canvas and later installed at the home.  Then, if you chose to move, you can simply remove the canvas from the wall and then reattatch it to the wall in the new location at a later time.  One benefit of having a mural on canvas is that the mural is painted in the studio and then installed at  the location so you don't have to worry about  having someone working at your home for an extended period.  I can paint your mural in this fashion or directly on the wall, whichever you chose.

(3) How much do murals cost?

That is a question that I often receive from clients before I actually get the opportunity to see the space.  Some artists price their murals by square foot and others by the day but I chose to work on a job by job basis.  There are several factors that go into my price for murals or custom artwork.  The first is location, not only of the house but also the mural.  If it is in an area that is difficult to reach (such as the ceiling or above a window) that will affect the bid.  The second factor is the image itself.  Some murals are packed with action and filled with people and objects and others are more simple.  There are a few other factors involved such as the cost for materials and so forth.  All supplies are always included in the price so there are no hidden fees later.  It is important to say that a custom mural or trompe l'oeil is more expensive than regular painting but for good reason.  A custom mural requires a greater commitment of time on the part of the artist than regular painting.  That being said murals often set the tone for the room and become the focal point.  As always estimates are free.
